What does Foundation for Puerto Rico do?

FPR creates opportunities that drive social and economic development in Puerto Rico, with a focus on the visitor economy and transforming the island into a global destination. Currently we have four active programs: The Bottom Up Destination Recovery Initiative, The Visitor Information and Experience Warehouse of Puerto Rico (VIEWPR), Colaboratorio, and the Whole Community Resilience Planning program which one part of the larger CDBG-DR Program.

What is the Bottom Up Destination Recovery Initiative?

FPR’s Bottom Up Destination Recovery Initiative is a sustainable, economic recovery model that helps communities become more resilient and economically active through the creation of tourism services and authentic local experiences.

This 12-month community-based recovery program guides a community through immediate small business support, as well as building a community destination economic development plan. This plan helps increase local tourism offerings and foster the extension of the average length of stay. As a result, economic development in the community is improved through better commercial operations, new businesses, job creation, workforce development and a growing tax base. o The FPR realized that these rural communities were being left behind. This Bottom Up Initiative links local rural communities to the broader national relief and recovery efforts. Click here for more information about the Bottom Up Destination Recovery Initiative.

What is VIEWPR?

The Visitor Information and Experience Warehouse of Puerto Rico (VIEWPR) seeks to increase economic activity in our communities by helping businesses get their information online and share their information with travel platforms across the world. In addition, the VIEWPR team provides digital presence workshops and tools to empower businesses to manage their information and interactions online. Click here for more information about VIEWPR.

What is the Whole Community Resilience Planning Program?

Per the approved Disaster Recovery Action Plan of the Puerto Rico Department of Housing, the Whole Community Resilience Planning Program will result in comprehensive community recovery plans, the benefits of which will allow communities to develop policies, planning, and management capacity that best meet their needs. Due to the dire humanitarian, economic, and social crisis created by hurricane Maria, FPR established the "Hurricane Maria Relief Fund" to direct all its resources to facilitate response and coordinate recovery initiatives. The fund targeted its rebuilding efforts with the goal to provide basic needs to our communities as well as provide critical and sustainable infrastructure in the island. In accordance with FPR’s vision, the fund focuses on preserving the vital assets that are crucial for the island’s immediate disaster recovery, while also supporting initiatives and approaches that enable a more resilient and sustainable model for the island’s long-term economic growth. Our ultimate goal is to help unleash the Puerto Rico’s full potential. Thank you for supporting our mission.
