Beach Clean Up Day in Crash Boat, Aguadilla
The Foundation for Puerto Rico team spent a day doing community service work in Crash Boat beach in Aguadilla. The beach’s infrastructure suffered damages after Hurricane Maria - and the FPR team, along with volunteers, reconstructed the stairs that lead to the beach and removed the sand from the dock and repainted it. Over 50 volunteers supported the efforts, helping restore access to the beach, especially for people dependent on mobility aids like wheelchairs.
Crash Boat beach was chosen for being an important tourist destination, vital to the visitor economy of the region - The Beach Clean Up Day is the first of many interventions in the community. Starting in December, Foundation for Puerto Rico is launching the Bottom Up Destination Recovery Initiative in Aguadilla & Isabela and Cabo Rojo & San German. Funded by the Economic Development Agency, these regional year-long interventions will focus on assessing, strengthening, and working with community members to develop strategies to attract more visitors.
